The new building is located on the Amsterdam Science park. With a gross floor area of approximately 10.000m2, the building houses two large sports halls which comply with NOC-NSF (Dutch Olympic Committee – Dutch Sports Federation) requirements, a climbing wall for novice to expert climbers, multifunctional sport studios (spinning, dojo, boxing ring etc.), a professional fitness room and separate weight-lifting rooms. After working out, visitors can recover in the sauna spaces, which contain traditional saunas, infrared saunas and steam baths. In the agreeable sports café “De Oerknal” (‘The Big Bang’), visitors can enjoy a drink and a healthy meal. The building also contains offices and therapy rooms.

Not in the least due to the innovate cooperation between designers and contractors, the building’s sustainability and space efficiency has been optimized without lowering the requirements as posed in the project brief. By bringing in the contractors’ construction knowledge and experience into the production information stage, it was made possible to realise a high quality building in a very limited time, in an area where many construction activities were taking place.
