The education centre has been realised concurrently with phase 1 of the new hospital’s new construction and is situated in between the other Erasmus Medical Centre buildings, to which the education centre is also linked.
At the heart of the design lies the education square, on the site of the former, open Querido square. The education square forms a studious landscape, consisting of hundreds of work and study places, the medical library with a striking book façade, IT facilities and catering. Forty lecture and colloquium rooms have been situated around the square, with a capacity varying from 15 to 233 persons. The light and spacious education centre has an academic character that invites to study (jointly) and promotes interaction between students, teachers and researchers of the Erasmus Medical Centre. The top floor contains specific facilities for stylish and festive promotions and other academic ceremonies.
On top of the roofs of the former lecture halls, a large room housing the Erasmus Medical Centre’s cooling installations has been constructed.
